Elenor Mak's journey to creating Jilly Bing, a line of Asian-inspired dolls, was anything but a walk in the park. 🎎
She started off with a simple Google search: "how do you make a doll?" and dove headfirst into the world of toy design.
However, the road was fraught with challenges. The initial designs she received were far from satisfactory - they were poorly drawn, stereotypical representations of Asian dolls that were already on the market. 🙅♀️
There were moments of doubt, moments when she questioned if her vision could ever come to life. But Elenor didn't give up. She continued to network, to search for the right people who could help her bring her vision to life.
And she found them - a three-generation Asian American toy designer family based in LA. They not only had experience with big brands like Mattel but also understood the nuances of creating an authentic Asian character. 🥠
This team, Elenor believes, is the secret sauce behind Jilly Bing. They welcomed her into the world of dolls and toys, and together, they're breaking stereotypes and creating dolls that truly represent the Asian community. 🎉
